Here at Lawrenceville Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to offer sedation to give our patients a stress-free visit.

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes sedation dentistry for children as one of the most effective ways to make children comfortable during their dental visit. Certain children with extensive oral health needs, acute situational anxiety, immature cognitive functioning, and disabilities require more intense sedation than nitrous to receive optimal quality of dental care. We at Lawrenceville Pediatric Dentistry offer a variety of safe and effective sedation options.

Oral /Conscious Sedation:

Oral sedation is used to reduce the anxiety or discomfort associated with dental treatments as well as promote a child’s acceptance of dental treatment. Your child will get drowsy, and may even fall asleep, but they will NOT become unconscious. There are a variety of different medications which can be used for oral conscious sedation. Medications are utilized along with nitrous oxide to alleviate anxiety or distress associated with dental procedures. The doctor will prescribe the medication(s) adequate for your child’s general health and dental treatment recommendations.

IV Sedation:

I.V. Sedation is recommended for children with very severe dental anxiety, children with extensive restorative treatment needs, very young children, or children for whom conscious sedation does not work. We strictly follow American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines for sedation to ensure safe and effective treatment for our patients. Our highly trained Board-certified anesthesiologist administers and monitors IV sedation in our office, while our dentist performs the dental treatment. We take all the necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of your child during dental procedures. Children with severe medical conditions, may have to be referred to a hospital setting for treatment under general anesthesia in the hospital.
